Defacement

Go to Glossary List

Description: Defacement is an action taken by hackers exploiting vulnerabilities on various servers to change the home page of those webservers. Defaced web-pages is an important part of hacker culture. Most defacements are performed by script-kiddies, since elite hackers refuse it and those who do so, try to help the administration clearing up their websites from vulnerabilities. There are sites, like http://www.attrition.org that catalogue defaced sites and mirror the defaced web-pages.
