Go to Glossary List

Description: Automounter Daemon AMD is a replacement for automount, found on older UNIX systems. It is more robust, available for a larger number of platforms (e.g. it is used in Linux systems). AMD is very useful in large cluster configurations of workstations and servers, sharing disk resources via NFS: user home directories are mounted only when accessed on any workstation.
