IP Fragmentation

Go to Glossary List

Description: A normal situation on IP networks, in which the IP protocol slices a packet that is too large into smaller ones. This occurs when the sender emits big packets as well as at router level, when different Maximum Transmit Units are involved. Reassembly is done at the final destination.
